20th Annual Meeting of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society

Joint Meeting General Information

The Mississippi and Arkansas Chapters of the American Fisheries Society invite you to their combined annual meeting in Tunica, Mississippi. The dates of the meeting are Wednesday, February 20 through Friday, February 22, 2008. The Mississippi and Arkansas Chapters will be celebrating their 34th and 20th annual meetings, respectively.

Location: The meeting will be held at Sam's Town Casino in Tunica, Mississippi, affectionately known as the "South's Casino Capital". For more information about Tunica and its attractions, please visit the Tunica Convention & Visitor's Bureau. The Casino has supplied us with two meeting rooms for the conference.

First Call For Papers: Mississippi and Arkansas Chapter members and associates are invited to submit abstracts for presentations and posters describing their fisheries research and management activities. Oral presentations will be made in a series of Technical Sessions on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday, and Friday morning as necessary. Final program will not be finalized until after all abstracts are received. Participants will be directed to the final meeting program as soon as it is available. Participation and attendance by students, inactive members and other interested people is strongly encouraged. Submission deadline for abstracts for contributed papers and the poster session is January 18, 2008. Abstracts will be submitted electronically via the Mississippi Chapter's webpage, which can be accessed at: Presentation/Poster Submission Form

Registration and Fees: Registration fees will be $50.00 for regular members and $20.00 for students. Fees will cover meeting expenses, Wednesday night social, and Thursday night Banquet. All registration will be conducted on-line by clicking here, and you will also be able to pay for registration and chapter dues on-line via a Verisign 128-bit encrypted transmission (the safest out there). You are encouraged to pay on-line, but if you prefer to pay upon arrival you will be afforded that option.

Lodging: Sam's Town Casino has reserved a block of 125 rooms for the conference for Wednesday and Thursday night. Reservations should be made by February 3, 2008.

Meals and Events: Dinner will be on your own Wednesday evening. A post-dinner social with musical entertainment is planned on Casino property Wednesday evening. Plans are to reserve the Tunica County River Park Museum for the reception on Thursday evening. Fried catfish and boiled crawfish will be the entrees for the reception. A free pass for the Museum (as well as the aquarium maintenance area) is included and should be of interest to most.

Business Meetings: Each chapter will have their respective annual business meeting on Friday, February 22.
