AFS Florida Chapter Student Subunit
Welcome

Welcome to the Florida Chapter AFS Student Subunit website.

This student unit was organized as a subunit of the Florida Chapter of the American Fisheries Society in 2005 to promote the involvement of students at Florida colleges and universities in the affairs of the American Fisheries Society and to encourage the exchange of technical and regional fisheries information among student members of the Florida Chapter who belong to this subunit.

Membership

All undergraduate and graduate students at Florida colleges and universities with interests in fisheries and aquatic science are encouraged to become members of the student subunit. Subunit members must be active members of the Florida Chapter, defined as those members in good standing. No additional dues will be assessed for membership. Student dues collected by the Florida Chapter will be shared in a 50% split between the Chapter and the Subunit and will be used to fund specific subunit initiatives and activities.

Rich Cailteux, biologist, AFS member, and friend

Rich Cailteux, an active member of the AFS and longtime FWC biologist, has passed away. Rich was an excellent mentor, biologist, and role model. There is a touching remembrance of Rich in this month's Shellcracker. You can click here to leave a message for his family. For those who can afford it, please consider sending a check made out to Jim Estes with 'Rich Cailteux Memorial Fund' written in the Memo line. Contributions will be used to purchase savings bonds for Rich's sons Brian and Brandon. Please mail checks by October 30th to Jim Estes, 9894 Deer Lake East, Tallahassee, FL 32312.
