Long-time FMS member Don Duff reported on the trout stream habitat improvement workshops that our section has helped to sponsor since 1978. The 2006 meeting is entitled Salmonids in the 21st Century, and will be held Oct 17-20, 2006 in Newcastle, United Kingdom. A call for papers can be found at their website (http://www.associationofriverstrusts.org.uk/salmonid_conf/), but the deadline is July 7. Download the meeting flyer here.
Based on the successful workshop in Ireland in 2002, which FMS also cosponsored, the Central Fisheries Board has issued a new publication based on their river restoration works using natural materials, based on design input from Duff in the 1990's. The book, entitled Channels & Challenges: the Enhancement of Salmonid Rivers, can be ordered from the Central Fisheries Board for a cost of about $50 (US), which includes shipping (http://www.cfb.ie/pr/channelsandchallenges.htm).
The linked flier has information on a National Fish Habitat Action Plan workshop that will be held at the Lake Placid AFS meeting. Please note the sponsorship by both FMS and the Fisheries Administration Section. Also, note that our FMS business meeting will occur late in the workshop, and we will have time for business as usual.
