Student Lodging

The 2002 Southern Division Mid-Year meeting will be held February 21-24 at the Doubletree Hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas. The SDAFS Student Affairs Committee has reserved a block of rooms for free student lodging February 22-24. Each room will be shared by four students of the same gender. Application deadline is January 15, 2002!!

The SDAFS Mid-Year meeting provides excellent opportunities for students to develop their professional skills. In addition to technical sessions addressing a variety of fisheries related issues, there are a number of workshops addressing specific topics, includes a Friday afternoon workshop on job skills. The job skills workshop is sponsored by the Student Affairs Committee and organized by the students from the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Take advantage of this opportunity to become more involved in your profession!

If you are interested in obtaining free lodging, send your name, address, contact phone number, e-mail address, school, gender, status (graduate or undergraduate), AFS member number (located on your FISHERIES mailing label), a statement about why you wish to attend the meeting and the night(s) you will need lodging to:

In the event that requests exceed the number of spaces available, the following criteria will be used to determine those receiving rooms:

1. Is the applicant presenting a paper or poster?
2. Has the applicant attended the Mid-year meeting before?
3. Is the applicant a member of AFS? 
4. Is the applicant an undergraduate or graduate?
5. What was the date of the room request?
6. What lodging dates are requested?

Student Travel Grants
Student aid will be available for the SDAFS Midyear Meeting. The SDAFS Student Affairs Committee will have a block of rooms available for students. Student Volunteers
Registration waivers will be available for students working at the meeting, e.g. running a projector for a session or helping at the registration/information booth. Students interested in working at the meeting should contact Brian Wagner at (501) 776-0218, bkwagner@agfc.state.ar.us.
