This course will cover the fundamentals of GIS data systems with a focus on the application of GIS to Fisheries Science. The course will include hands on exercises using ESRI’s ArcExplorer package, which is available for free from ESRI. Hands-on exercises will be used throughout the course so attendees can become more familiar with the topics covered.

the pros and cons of each

list of sources for obtaining GIS data

Using
GIS to display data that are stored in a separate database (like Access or
ORACLE)
