Each year our Techniques Demonstration provides Oklahoma students with hands-on experience with equipment and methods routinely used in the fisheries profession. The event is held at a different location in Oklahoma each year so participants can experience sampling in different habitats and see new fish species, as well as enjoy a variety of Oklahoma’s scenic lakes and rivers.
We invite fisheries professionals familiar with each location to attend and share management issues and concerns in the area. Recent locations of the Techniques Demonstration include Lake Eufaula, Lake Texoma, Spring Creek and Illinois River, and Lake Carl Blackwell. Techniques demonstrated at these events include: electrofishing, seining, gill netting, invertebrate sampling, mark-recapture methods, otolith removal and aging, and water quality analyses.
The 14th Annual Fisheries Techniques Demonstration will be held in Stillwater, Oklahoma at Lake Carl Blackwell on April, 18 2008 beginning at 9:00 A.M. For more information please contact Drew Lane (drew.lane@okstate.edu) or 417-840-0488.
