Newsletter Editor Report:

bulletNewsletter report by Jansen.  He asked that with such a large committee who is the contact in each state and organization?  Mike Allen will send an e mail to all committee members to determine the answer and to see who wants to be on the committee.  Fred will try to prepare a newsletter twice per year which will be e mailed to members and posted on the web site.  Members should send info to Fred to be included in the newsletter.

Old Business:

New Business:

bulletAllen mentioned the dam removal symposium planned for the mid year meeting.  Removing dams was not thought to be good for this committee.

bulletGilliland discussed the National Bass Grass Alliance.  This new organization was founded recently to protect anglers rights with regard to plants, fish and plant removal interactions.  They are planning a national meeting at some point in the future and requested that the committee provide some funding.  A motion to table action until meeting specifics were developed was made by Heitman and 2nd by Janssen.  Motion passed.

Habitat Manual

The abiotic manual is now posted on the Reservoir Committee web page.  Allen will get Kim to create a pdf file of the document and put in page numbers and an index.  Committee members are urged to review the site and get comments to Allen by August 31.  Allen will beef up the literature review.  In general, the abiotic manual is a great step forward and should be useful to professionals and non-professionals alike.

Aquatic plants – There was much discussion of where we go with the information we have gathered to date.  It was concluded that Webb and Jansen would work with Mike Smart to develop an interactive page for the web site.  This would be done by the midyear meeting.  This page would allow simple queries that could direct a user to a group of plants that might be useful given the conditions of their situation.

It was decided that there would be no committee meeting at the SE this year.

Meeting was adjourned for the day at 4:00pm.

We adjourned for the day.  That evening committee members were treated to deep fried turkey prepared by our host Mark Oliver.  It was GREAT.

Allen called the meeting to order at 9:00.  We discussed whether we wanted to do a habitat field project.  Considerable discussion followed.  It was concluded that we did not have sufficient information, at this time, to determine what questions we wanted to answer with this type project.  Colvin asked the question how do reservoir fish populations change as reservoirs age.  It determined that we might want to look at some long term data sets of reservoir fisheries to see how fish populations change over extended periods of time.  Oliver and Heitman volunteered to look into this and report back at the mid year meeting.

The plant database was discussed.  Suggestions were made as to how to structure the information and what outputs would be appropriate.  Webb and Jansen took all of this under advisement and will report back in February.

Round table discussions followed.

Motion to adjourn by Heitman was seconded by all present.  Motion passed.
