Colloquium
Guidelines for host selection of the Student Colloquium
The SDAFS Student Colloquium (hereafter called Colloquium) is hosted during fall (October or November) by a student chapter or subunit (hereafter called host) of the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society. The host is responsible for all aspects of hosting the meeting. The Student Affairs Committee will contribute $1000 to the host, but all additional funding needs will be secured by the host. Additionally, the host will serve as the chair of a selection committee that votes on applications for hosting the Colloquium in the following year.
The selection committee will include the following four: The chair (most recent host), a representative from the previous host, the chair of the Student Affairs Committee, and the SDAFS President-elect. If needed, the SDAFS president’s vote will resolve a tie.
The Colloquium application form will be made available for download from the SDAFS or associated webpage (see attached application form with letterheads of the SDAFS and most recent host).
The applicant will send the completed application form to the selection committee (electronically as an email attachment) by a predetermined deadline prior to the SDAFS Spring Meeting.
Following host selection, the chair of the Student Affairs Committee will send a recommendation letter for SDAFS EXCOM approval. After EXCOM approval, the award letter will be sent to the upcoming host by the chair of the Student Affairs Committee. Additionally, the predetermined application deadline should be set to allow for the EXCOM approval and announcement of the host selection at the spring meeting of the SDAFS.
