TEXAS CHAPTER WINS OUTSTANDING CHAPTER AWARD!!
Dick Luebke

At the annual business meeting of the Southern Division, American Fisheries Society held in Louisville, Kentucky on October 16, the Texas Chapter won the Outstanding Chapter Award for 2001. The chapter is no stranger to this award, having previously won it in 1995 and again in 1996. In his summary of achievements that earned the chapter the award, Awards Committee Chair Gene Gilliland listed the following:

  • Largest membership of any Southern Division chapter (over 200)
  • 25th anniversary celebration at last annual meeting which also included technical sessions and continuing education
  • Publication of annual proceedings which is sanctioned by the parent Society as citable, peer-reviewed literature
  • Publication of 4 newsletters/year as well as an excellent Internet website
  • Assistance with formation of a student subunit
  • Giving of four $500 scholarships with funds from a special endowment fund
  • Revision of Farm Pond Stocking Assessment and Management Recommendations publication, including making it web-based
  • Recognition of outstanding achievements of chapter members
  • Particularly active Issues Committee

By winning the award, the Texas Chapter is automatically considered, along with the winners from the other parent Society divisions, for the Outstanding Chapter Award at the society level. Congratulations to the Texas Chapter for another job well done!
