| JOHN A. DENNIS (Texas Parks and Wildlife
Department, 4002 N. Chadbourne, San Angelo, Texas 76903) Proportional Stock Density (PSD) was first proposed in 1974 and then modified over the next several years to include more species and size classes forming the basis for Relative Stock Density (RSD). PSDs and RSDs are used by fisheries managers to describe fish populations as well as define management goals. Red drum have been stocked into freshwater reservoirs and fisheries managers can use the PSD and RSD in the same manner as they do for other species. Using the procedure of determining percentage of longest freshwater red drum captured by and angler, the length for size classifications were calculated. The size for stock, quality, preferred, memorable, and trophy red drum are 10, 17, 22, 28, and 34 inches respectively. |
