David Wellman is the Assistant Fisheries Biologist for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources stationed in District 1 at Farmington. He has a B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Kansas and a M.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources from West Virginia University. His areas of interest include large river and reservoir management, as well as water quality issues. Assessment of walleye stocking in West Virginia reservoirs and population assessment of flathead catfish in Ohio River are two of his current projects.

Dr. Welsh is the Assistant Unit Leader for the USGS, West
Virginia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit. Stuart also is an adjunct
Associate Professor of Ichthyology at WVU, where he teaches a graduate level
Ichthyology class. His research focuses on
fish ecology, fish habitat, zoogeography, and systematics. Stuart has been an AFS member since 1996, with
involvement in the parent society, the Southern Division, and the West Virginia
Chapter. He served as Chair of the

![]() | Brandon Keplinger is the Assistant Fisheries Biologist for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources stationed out of Romney in District II. He has a B.S. and M.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Resource Management obtained from West Virginia University. His areas of interest include fish health impacts on stream and river communities, fish community monitoring, native brook trout population restoration, and stream, lake and small impoundment management. Current projects include warmwater fisheries habitat enhancement and the assessment of smallmouth bass and macroscopic observations of fish health indicators in the South Branch River of the Potomac.
